As a public university open to the world and is anchored in the scientific, cultural and economic development of its region, the University of Liège relies on its three pillars: teaching, research and civic engagement.
ULiège trains responsible citizens who are provided with cutting-edge knowledge and critical thinking, are able to share knowledge and can push forward an increasingly complex world.
ULiège develops and promotes excellence in research, multidisciplinary and direct engagement with its instruction.
Global exposure is a top priority at the University of Liège. The institution offers a wide range of international mobility opportunities to students, researchers and staff, enabling them to enhance their cross-disciplinary skills and language knowledge.
ULiège: an experience of daily living. Located in 3 cities and 4 campuses, the university is a key player in terms of the environment and mobility.
Study renewable energy sources and develop new smart grids to better manage our energy consumption, whether fossil or renewable.
Through its laboratories, the CESAM (Complex and Entangled Systems from Atoms to Materials) research unit integrates a coherent set of theoretical and experimental expertise that favours a multidisciplinary approach in its research work on systems ranging from the individual atom to the most complex materials. CESAM thus develops basic and applied research activities in fields divided into 5 areas of expertise:
The Montefiore Institute is the electricity, electronics and IT department of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of Liège. It is active in a range of basic and applied research topics in various fields: information and communication technologies, computer science, electronics, power systems and mathematical applications.
The interdisciplinary research unit SPHERES, which covers both the exact, applied, social and economic sciences, seeks to research the different spheres that make up the Earth: the atmosphere (climate, composition, traffic, ambient air), the hydrosphere (rivers, the polar cap, aquifer), the biosphere (biocenosis, ecosystem, agriculture, biodiversity), the geosphere (geomorphology, geo-risk, surface processes), the technosphere (geomatics, satellite positioning, remote sensing, smart cities, energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable construction) and the anthroposphere (habitat, territory, economic geography, governance and citizen participation).
The SPHERES unit has a threefold mission:
The research activities of the Urban and Environmental Engineering Research Unit are all related to urban and environmental engineering. They are structured around 4 interrelated axes, based on a dynamic understanding of the urban environment. These 4 axes are transversal to the department and to the different sectors that make it up: Design of buildings, structures and transport networks, Materials and effective management of resources, Risk and environmental engineering, human activities and built environment.
