Interreg Meuse-Rhine (NL-BE-DE)
The Interreg Meuse-Rhine (EMR) program supports cross-border cooperation between the border regions of Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, and more specifically between 5 regions: the Provinces of Limburg in Belgium and the Netherlands, the Province of Liège (BE), NordRhein-Westfalen (DE) and Rheinland-Pfalz (DE). For the 2021-2027 programming period, a total of 176 million euros will be available for cross-border projects, of which 125 million euros will be provided by the European Union. The remainder of the funding will be provided by regional co-financing from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, or by the applicant's own resources.
Interreg Meuse-Rhine has identified five major societal challenges in its region. Its program aims to improve the lives of the region's inhabitants and have a real impact on issues such as industrial transition, green transformation, health, tourism and cooperation.
Through Interreg EMR, the University of Liège is actively involved in projects aimed at making the Euregio Meuse-Rhine more attractive, greener, more social, closer to citizens and with better cross-border governance.

AACOMA | Accelerate Advanced Composite Manufacturing | Accelerate Advanced Composite Manufacturing : Composites were mainly developed for the aerospace industry for their exceptional combination of lightness and mechanical properties. Technical advances in materials design and advanced manufacturing processes (Industry 4.0) are paving the way for their use in many sectors. Acquiring knowledge in advanced material and process technologies, building demonstrators and testing them are essential steps that need to be evaluated before investing in new production lines. | Olivier BRULS |

E-TEST | Site and technology of the Einstein Telescope in the EMR: Recent detections of gravitational waves have opened a new window on the universe, in line with Einstein's work, offering an exciting future that will only be possible with a new generation of ultra-sensitive laser-interferometric gravitational observatories. This requires a large-scale, world-class underground infrastructure (300 m deep) covering around 50 km² in the area between the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. Such a remarkable and unique international scientific infrastructure (the Einstein Telescope) will stimulate the socio-economic development of the region, and make a major contribution to boosting the competitiveness of local SMEs. The Einstein Telescope (ET) is currently in competition with three candidates, and the EMR site has been identified as a suitable location to host the ET. The Interreg EMR program therefore appears to be an ideal instrument to support this initiative. | Christophe COLLETTE |

Generate your muscles: Maintaining muscle mass and strength is important for a healthy and sustainable life, but not for everyone. Muscle degradation affects 10-20% of the elderly population, leading to loss of function, reduced quality of life and sometimes even death. In all these cases, there is no effective treatment, and the development of a generic therapy to restore muscle mass and strength has a huge impact, both in terms of preventing severe suffering and improving quality of life. | Yves BEGUIN |

In Flow | Innovative flow chemistry for sustainable formulations: The main challenge of this R&D project for the formulation, characterization and engineering of biochemicals is to introduce new degradable packaging technologies for rapid, low-cost formulation. The three main objectives are (1) to set up an open technology platform; (2) to develop R&D infrastructure, technologies and protocols for the production of biodegradable capsules; and (3) to synthesize degradable biomaterials meeting end-user demands. |
