Open access at ULiège
Ten years ago, ORBi (Open Repository and Bibliography) was born, an institutional directory that aims to collect, preserve and disseminate the scientific production of the members of the University of Liège.
As a public university open to the world and is anchored in the scientific, cultural and economic development of its region, the University of Liège relies on its three pillars: teaching, research and civic engagement.
ULiège trains responsible citizens who are provided with cutting-edge knowledge and critical thinking, are able to share knowledge and can push forward an increasingly complex world.
ULiège develops and promotes excellence in research, multidisciplinary and direct engagement with its instruction.
Global exposure is a top priority at the University of Liège. The institution offers a wide range of international mobility opportunities to students, researchers and staff, enabling them to enhance their cross-disciplinary skills and language knowledge.
ULiège: an experience of daily living. Located in 3 cities and 4 campuses, the university is a key player in terms of the environment and mobility.
For already several years, the University of Liège has an active policy on supporting open access to information, and therefore fully subscribes to the principles of Open Access.
The Open Access (OA) movement is intended to allow for the widest possible dissemination of scientific information, without economic (or other) barriers, so as to facilitate the dissemination and development of knowledge.
Through the implementation of an ambitious institutional deposit policy, our University has positioned itself as an important Open Access actor both at the national and international levels. The compulsory deposit mandate adopted by the University in 2007 has led to the success of the ORBi institutional repository of the University of Liège. This commitment to Open Access was confirmed with the creation of different Open Access platforms intended to widely disseminate the scientific production of ULiège.

DONum is a portal of digitised objects, resulting from collections from different departments of the University of Liège. These very diverse objects (manuscripts, scientific tools or instruments, works of art, etc.) constitute both traces of centuries of study and research and sources for our researchers and students of today. The preservation of this heritage can find its answer in digitalisation: making these "objects" accessible to the public online, in order to implement better conservation conditions for the originals.
MatheO (Master Thesis Online) is the access portal to Masters theses from the University of Liège. This projects aims not only to provide a solution to the problem of "paper" archiving and sustainable conservation, but also to offer a much larger accessibility and a visibility to these works of students, many of which are of great quality. In addition, it allows for the implementation of an automated deposit process, including a "plagiarism" check.
The portal PoPuPS ("Portail de Publication de Périodiques Scientifiques") is intended to allow for the internet dissemination of freely accessible, full-text journals published by members of the Wallonia-Europe Academy Currently, the portal includes approximately twenty journals.
All these projects are part of the devotion of libraries to actively participate in the influence of the Institution and of the entirety of its scientific production.
