T

his doctoral training (60 credits) gives a high scientific and professional qualification and highlights the skills acquired during the thesis. It mainly consists of specific activities related to the profession of researcher. A customised plan is established at the beginning of each academic year between the doctoral student and his thesis Committee, in agreement with the expectations of the doctoral College, which evaluates progress.

The three components of the training programme

Doctoral training is divided into three rather flexible parts:

1. Thematic training

This consists of high-level disciplinary training, related to the topic of the doctoral student's research.

These courses are offered by the thematic doctoral schools of the FRS-FNRS, but also by international doctoral schools, summer schools, etc.

Indeed, a number of thematic training programmes are available abroad. In order to encourage doctoral students from ULiège to spread their wings, there is a possibility for in-house funding, open to all ULiège doctoral students.

2. Transversal training

International research stays, public communications or specific training.

3. Scientific production

This includes the scientific publications and communications that make up the doctoral journey. Trainings in scientific writing are offered (link training catalogue). All publications of ULiège researchers, including PhD students, are gathered together and made freely accessible via internet in ORBi (Open Repository and Bibliography) the repository put in place by the ULiège Library.

A doctoral training framework

Available in French and in English, it details the types of valuable activities and offers the number of credits to be validated for a given activity.
