Strategy & Impact
The University of Liège is a research university where the freedom for research, innovation and creativity are expressed on a daily basis. By its very specificity, research enriches teaching.
ur University seeks to offer its researchers optimal working conditions and means worthy of excellence in research. The implementation of Research Units made it possible to redefine the landscape and create collective structures able to compete with the best "centres of excellence" in the world.
To date, a few themes have already been identified, such as health, space, materials, water, biomass and energy.
Being a researcher today means developing quality research, but also achieving international visibility in a highly competitive environment.
It's also about acquiring a large range of scientific skills which are transversal and mobilisable, both within an academic career and outside of the university. The interdisciplinarity and adaptability of skills are components which must be mastered by tomorrow's leaders.
We therefore make our doctoral students a priority. The doctorate constitutes training in research through research. It very clearly positions us as a key player in the training of researchers, and differentiates us from other higher learning establishments and research institutions.
Excellence in research requires the mobilisation of significant resources for our researchers.
Our University seeks to actively participate in the implementation of a collective financing strategy of its innovation and excellence platforms. The earning of European credit, the professionalisation of methods and the search for excellence partners through European and international consortiums are, for example, priority objectives.
Excellence in research is also expressed through the manifest will of the institution to share its knowledge and to valorise its innovations in the regional and international landscapes.
Our Institution has always been, and intends to remain, a key player in innovation. Our University is implementing institutional peaks of excellence, the ambition of which is to associate around portfolios of projects the expertise of its researchers and the experience of technological, industrial, public and private actors. This interdisciplinary approach provides significant added value for all partners concerned and for society itself.
