New training program for scientific staff
A new training pathway for scientific staff is available from the start of the 2025-2026 academic year. In an ever-changing research environment, it will offer high-quality training for every profile of researcher.
The new training program has been developed in conjunction with the researchers and departments concerned, to meet the specific needs of the many different scientific careers. It thus complements the existing offer by proposing a coherent training trajectory, following the example of what already exists for teaching and ATO staff.
The training pathway comprises two components:
- A common component for all scientific staff, including a mandatory half-day welcome at ULiège(onboarding), a session on ethics and scientific integrity, and a session on the principles of sustainability and transition (MOOC).
- A specific component based on one of the six researcher profiles identified: doctoral student, assistant, assistant doctoral student, postdoctoral student, definitive research scientist and definitive teaching scientist. This section includes both mandatory and recommended training courses, depending on needs.
Implementation of the training program for scientific staff
In accordance with the Board of Directors' decision, this training program is compulsory for scientific staff taking up their duties from the start of the 2025-2026 academic year. Existing staff will be able to participate on a voluntary basis.
In practice, those concerned will be directly informed of the training sessions, which will be held in French and English. The half-day induction session will be compulsory for all new researchers, whatever the length of their mandate or contract; the other stages of the training will be compulsory only for researchers whose mandate or contract extends over at least one year. As far as doctoral students are concerned, the Doctoral Colleges have full discretion to decide on possible adaptations for doctoral students with specific profiles (cotutelle, clinical activity, etc.). Exemptions may also be granted to students who have previously completed equivalent training.
