VIVUS: New spin-off from the University of Liège, specializing in urban greening products
Spin-off
Ecosystems built by human activity play an increasingly important role in our landscapes (urban environments, industrial wastelands, green spaces, transport infrastructures, etc.). Over 80% of the world's population will be living in cities within the next 50 years.
D
eveloping nature and biodiversity in these human-built spaces is essential to reconnect people with nature in their daily lives, to halt the collapse of the living world, and to meet the challenges posed by global change to our societies: adaptation to climate change, natural risk management, health, water management, etc
Developing nature where it is least expected means involving all socio-economic players in a virtuous process, from organizational strategy to detailed action plans.
VIVUS offers a new way for companies and players in the industrial and urban worlds, both private and public, to develop nature-based solutions, thanks to a unique combination:
- Cutting-edge expertise to engage companies in nature-based development strategies, right through to technical action plans.
- A digital suite (BioPlanner) to empower stakeholders in the management, planning and monitoring of biodiversity strategy.
- Unique urban greening products, eco-designed in Belgium: green walls, fences and roofs to connect buildings and their spaces to nature
VIVUS is a spin-off from ULiège, created by Sylvain Boisson and Grégory Mahy, two experts with a passion for nature. VIVUS leverages 15 years of expertise and know-how, developed within Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech's Biodiversity and Landscape research team, to integrate nature into the heart of industrial and urban environments. Today, VIVUS focuses on the implementation of green roof and wall projects, and is developing its services for real estate developers and players involved in urban, peri-urban and industrial landscapes, as well as for companies to integrate biodiversity issues into their strategy.
"It's time to act to ensure the ecological transition. Building the cities of tomorrow by integrating nature at the heart of strategies is no longer an option, but a necessity," says Sylvain Boisson, CEO of VIVUS.
"VIVUS is a perfect illustration of our commitment to transforming innovation into concrete solutions for a sustainable future. Urban greening is an essential step towards more resilient and liveable cities," adds Didier Mattivi, director of the RISE department at ULiège.
